Bergman’s last theatrical feature, a film considered by many as one of his greatest works---an autobiographical fiction, based on the unhappy childhood that he and his sister experienced after their father died, and their mother then married an extremely strict and unloving Lutheran pastor.

Ingmar Bergman's ANSIKTET [THE MAGICIAN] (1958) $3,750.00 SOLD
Vintage original 39 x 27;" (100 x 70 cm.) one sheet poster, Sweden. Max von Sydow, Ingrid Thulin, dir: Ingmar Bergman; Svensk Filmindustri. An extremely rare Swedish poster for this early Swedish film classic by Bergman -- a semi-horror film (about a charlatan magician who may or may not have any true powers) which had an enormous impact when released in the US and UK soon after its Swedish debut (I personally saw it as a kid, and it scared the hell out of me when I first saw it!).
Ingmar Bergman's GYCKLARNAS AFTON [SAWDUST AND TINSEL] (1953) $2,500.00 SOLD
Vintage original 27 x 39" (70 x 100 cm.) poster, Sweden. Harriet Andersson, Hasse Ekman, dir: Ingmar Bergman; Svensk Filmindustri. Originally released in the U.S. under the title The Naked Night, this searing film is about a small traveling circus in rural Sweden in the early twentieth century. Ekman's anguished performance as the aging owner of the circus clearly channels Emil Jannings' work in various German expressionist silent films, among them Dupont's Variety. Harriet Andersson, in the central role of Ekman's young and rather steely mistress, clearly anticipates the powerful women's' roles which will emerge in later Bergman films.

Vintage original 27 x 38" (70 x 98 cm.) poster, Sweden. Lon Chaney, Loretta Young, Nils Asther, Gwen Lee, dir: Herbert Brenon, MGM. Lon Chaney ran the gamut in the story which spanned a 25-year period in the life of the circus clown known as Pagliacci, the clown who could not laugh. Perhaps his finest film performance, he also guided 14-year-old Loretta Young in her first featured role. One of the finest silent films, based on story by David Belasco.

Vintage original 35 x 24" (89 x 61 cm.) poster, Sweden. Jane Gail, Matt Moore, dir: George Loane Tucker; Universal. This was, for its time, an extraordinary film about what was called "the white slave trade," a euphemism for prostitution. It was one of the early features which put the then-fledgling Universal Studios into the consciousness of the ticket-buying public.
WINTER LIGHT [NATTVARDSGASTERNA] (1963) $750.00 SOLD
Set of 15 vintage original double weight 9 ¼ x 11 ¾” (24 x 31 cm.) photos, Sweden. Ingrid Thulin, Gunnar Bjornstrand, Gunnel Lindblom, Max von Sydow, dir: Ingmar Bergman; Svensk Filmindustri.
The second film in Bergman’s trilogy, about which he commented: “These three films deal with reduction. Through a Glass Darkly – conquered certainty. Winter Light – penetrated certainty.
