BIRDMAN OF ALCATRAZ (1962) Screenplay by Guy Trosper / From the biography by Thomas E. Gaddis
BIRDMAN OF ALCATRAZ (1962) Screenplay by Guy Trosper / From the biography by Thomas E. Gaddis $1,250.00

Harold Hecht Productions, Inc., [earlier than July 1962]. [1],180 leaves. Quarto. Mimeographed typescript, brad-bound in printed wrappers.

An unspecified -- but certainly early -- draft of this adaptation to the screen of Gaddis' biography of Robert Stroud. The 3 July 1962 release, directed by John Frankenheimer, starred Burt Lancaster as Stroud, and with a release running time of 147 minutes suggests that extensive portions of this draft were cut in the revision process. An uncommon script for the multiple award-nominated film.

BIRDMAN OF ALCATRAZ was the first of a series of classic films directed by Frankenheimer, followed in short order by such...

Ingmar Bergman's GYCKLARNAS AFTON [SAWDUST AND TINSEL] (1953)
Ingmar Bergman's GYCKLARNAS AFTON [SAWDUST AND TINSEL] (1953) $2,500.00

Vintage original 27 x 39" (70 x 100 cm.) poster, Sweden. Harriet Andersson, Hasse Ekman, dir: Ingmar Bergman; Svensk Filmindustri. Originally released in the U.S. under the title The Naked Night, this searing film is about a small traveling circus in rural Sweden in the early twentieth century. Ekman's anguished performance as the aging owner of the circus clearly channels Emil Jannings' work in various German expressionist silent films, among them Dupont's Variety. Harriet Andersson, in the central role of Ekman's young and rather steely mistress, clearly anticipates the powerful women's' roles which will emerge in later Bergman films.

[LE VIEIL HOMME ET L'ENFANT] Vintage original 26 x 35" (66 x 90 cm.) silkscreen art poster, USA.

Our friend, poster collector and dealer Daniel Strebin, provided this information: About a decade ago, he received consignments of Saul Bass silkscreens from the Bass estate. He personally saw invoices for some of them which were printed around 1965. Most of the silkscreens were produced at Art Krebs Studio in Los Angeles. Bass continued to have silkscreens created up until around 1980. All of the silkscreen editions appear to have been in editions of between 50-150. It also seems that once an edition...
