Week after week, the Cartwrights -- a father and three sons (each born of a different wife) shared adventures on their Ponderosa Ranch near Virginia City, NV. Much of the series was filmed at Paramount Studios backlot.

Very early in Dave Letterman’s career as host of LATE NIGHT WITH DAVID LETTERMAN, Divine appeared in this very distinctive wig and dress and performed a number called “Born to Be Cheap.”  Fine.

This was the first of what would become a slew of rural comedies, and all the then-existing networks initially turned it down. It eventually debuted on CBS in 1957 and became a huge success, which in turn led to other shows like BEVERLY HILLBILLIES and PETTICOAT JUNCTION, all of them with country folk as the protagonists. In the case of this show, Walter Brennan starred as Grandpa Amos McCoy, the patriarch of a West Virginia family who move to the San Fernando Valley in suburban Los Angeles.

Kirk Alyn played the screen's first Superman and this was the most successful film serial of all time, with 15 episodes. Here is Kirk with Tommy Bond (Butch of Our Gang fame) as Jimmy Olsen. This scene is from episode 14 and the still is coded "D D910-Ep 14-2". Slight curling and minor creasing at the top fight corner. VERY GOOD-FINE.
