Fitzgerald’s career took off immediately after Scribners’ very successful launch in 1920 of his first novel, THIS SIDE OF PARADISE.  He was also writing numerous short stories, which were finding ready publication in various mainstream magazines.  As a result, Hollywood immediately beckoned, and three films were produced in 1920 and 1921, all adapted from Fitzgerald stories: THE CHORUS GIRL’S ROMANCE and THE HUSBAND HUNTER, both 1920; and THE OFF-SHORE PIRATE, 1921. ...

BURGESS, ANTHONY A CLOCKWORK ORANGE (First UK Edition, inscribed by Burgess to Si Litvinoff, producer of the 1971 film adaptation directed by Stanley Kubrick) $6,000.00 SOLD

London: William Heinemann, 1962. First Edition. Copy inscribed by Burgess to Si Litvinoff, the single most important catalyst in the transition of Burgess' masterpiece from the literary world to the screen. Litvinoff handled Burgess' little-known attempt at a screenplay adaptation in 1965. After Burgess dropped out, Litvinoff purchased the option for the film rights for $1000, and shepherded filmmaking attempts by several other screenwriters, directors, and actors--including Terry Southern, Nicholas Roeg, and Mick Jagger--until Stanley Kubrick ultimately wrote and directed the now-legendary 1971 film adaptation. With Litvinoff's owner name on the front endpaper, and INSCRIBED...

CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF (1958)
CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF (1958) $1,400.00 SOLD

Vintage original 30 x 40" (75 x 100 cm.) quad poster, UK. Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman, Burl Ives, Judith Anderson, Madeleine Sherwood, dir: Richard Brooks; MGM.

The highly adult filming of Tennessee Williams' work was paramount in the loosening of the strict censorship code in film making, as were all films of Williams' work during this period. It was an actor's film, with each star perfectly cast to their role. If there were any question of it, Elizabeth Taylor was now grown up and a fine actress in her mature roles. It is difficult to think of anyone else as Maggie...

Peter Lorre, Edward Arnold, Marian Marsh, Tala Birell, dir: Josef von Sternberg, Columbia. Wonderfully atmospheric character portrait of Peter Lorre as Raskolnikov in this Joseph von Sternberg-directed version of the Dostoyevsky novel. The script updated the story to reflect the bleak years of the Depression. Sternberg was contractually obligated to make the film and he disliked it. Though made on a B-movie budget, it proved to be greatly atmospheric and entertaining.

This portrait of Lorre is coded @C.O Corp. Peter Lorre -46....

DARK PASSAGE (1947)
DARK PASSAGE (1947) $2,500.00 SOLD

Vintage original 41 x 27" (103 x 68 cm.) one sheet poster, USA. Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Agnes Moorehead, Bruce Bennett, Tom d'Andrea; dir.: Delmer Daves. A much darker journey into the film noir realm for Bogart and Bacall than their early, wildly successful BIG SLEEP, this time from a lurid David Goodis novel of a man (Bogart) wrongly convicted of the murder of his wife, rescued by a concerned courtroom spectator (Bacall) and who must change his notorious face through back-door plastic surgery in order to find the real killer. One of the truly great films of this now-revered...
