BETTE DAVIS (ca. 1938)
BETTE DAVIS (ca. 1938) $1,500.00

Vintage original 11 x 15" (29 x 38 cm.) double weight matte finish hand colored poster, promotion for Warner Brothers Pictures, France. Davis at the height of her star power presents herself with trademark cigarette and plenty of attitude in this unusual piece. Davis won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1935 and 1938 and would be nominated in 1939, 1940, 1941 and 1942, as well as for five other years. This is one of an extremely rare group of small posters done in France for Warner Brothers stars in the late-1930s. NEAR FINE.

BETTE DAVIS / MISS MOFFAT (1974) $550.00

Vintage original 22 x 14" (55 x 35 cm.), window card, USA. Bette Davis, Dody Goodman, Anne Francine, Nell Carter, dir: Joshua Logan; Wlksm Logan and Brown. Very rare theatre poster for the ill-fated musical version of Emlyn William's The Corn is Green.

Bette Davis scored highly with an Academy Award nomination playing the repressed but driven school teacher in the 1945 film. It seemed like an excellent source for a musical, and many of the tops in theatre were engaged to make this a success.

The critics panned it, however, and Bette -- at a time when...

CORN IS GREEN, THE (1945) $300.00

Vintage original 11 x 14" (28 x 35 cm.) lobby card set of eight (8), USA. Bette Davis, Nigel Bruce, John Dall, Joan Lorring, Rhys Williams, Mildred Dunnock, dir: Irving Rapper; Warner Brothers. From the famous Emlyn Williams Broadway play.

Bette Davis, in perhaps her most unmannered performance, plays a teacher in a Welsh mining town who sets up a school to teach fundamentals to the villagers. One student turns out to be brilliant, and she does all she can to encourage him so as he can have a life outside of the town. This was basically the autobiography...

GRAND HOTEL (1932) $500.00

Vintage original 14 x 22" (35 x 56 cm.) window card poster, USA. Greta Garbo, John Barrymore, Joan Crawford, Wallace Beery, Lionel Barrymore, Lewis Stone, Jean Hersholt, dir: Edmund Goulding; MGM. The granddaddy of the all-star cast extravaganza. The mold was cast with this story of a group of different people staying at Berlin's luxury hotel (and based on Vicki Baum's book). Their dramas play out in the rooms of the hotel, some of them meeting and overlapping, but mostly each story plays itself out, with the cynical, bored and scarred doctor of the establishment (Lewis Stone) stating at the...

IN THIS OUR LIFE (1942) $225.00

Vintage original 10 x 8" (25 x 20 cm.) photo, USA. Bette Davis, Charles Coburn, dir: John Huston; Warner Brothers. Vertical image of Davis, Coburn, and Huston on set. With stamp of photographer Bob Beerman and date stamp on back. NEAR FINE.

Vintage original 10 x 13" (25 x 33 cm.) black-and-white double weight glossy silver gelatin print still photo, USA. One of the earliest and most elegant of all Joan Crawford portraits ever photographed -- and Joan loved working in the portrait photographers' studio! She, along with Greta Garbo, adored working with the great portrait artist Ruth Harriet Louise, and Louise took some of the most unusual images of Crawford. Louise worked at MGM between 1925 and 1930.

Here Crawford is wearing a spectacular beaded and sequined fur wrap and beaded gown. Though not credited, it is likely that this...

LETTER, THE (1940)
LETTER, THE (1940) $750.00

Vintage original 17 x 11" (43 x 28 cm.) pressbook, USA. Bette Davis, Herbert Marshall, dir: William Wyler; Warner Brothers. Folio, pictorial wrappers, 16 pp. Devastating adaptation from classic W. Somerset Maugham fiction, and often cited as one of the earliest specimens of film noir. A genuinely rare pressbook, the only one which I have ever encountered. Folded as issued, with light wear at spine and at edges, VERY GOOD+.

MARKED WOMAN (1937) $300.00

Vintage original 8 x 10" (20 x 25 cm.) single weight glossy photo, USA. Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart, Lola Lane, Isabel Jewell, Mayo Methot, Jane Bryan, dir: Lloyd Bacon; Warner Brothers. Still depicts scene between clip joint "hostess" Mary (Davis) and DA Graham (Bogart) who is wanting her to testify against her violent mobster boss. Still has original paper blurb attached to back and is stamped by the Examiner Reference Library, March 11, 1937. FINE.

MARKED WOMAN (1937) - 1
MARKED WOMAN (1937) - 1 $1,500.00

Vintage original 12 x 8" (30 x 20 cm.) midget/mini window card, USA. Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart, Lola Lane, Isabel Jewell, Mayo Methot, Jane Bryan, dir: Lloyd Bacon; Warner Brothers. Brilliant tale of hostesses told with as much candor as post-Production Code Hollywood was allowed. Working girl Bette Davis displays herself in one of her most glamorous gowns on this fine Warner Brothers poster of the period. The beaded gown (represented in red on this card) was made for her by Orry-Kelly.

This is the film which marked Bette Davis' return to Warner Brothers after she walked out on...

MARKED WOMAN (1937) - 2
MARKED WOMAN (1937) - 2 $750.00

Vintage original 17 x 11" (43 x 28 cm.) pressbook, USA; Folio, 20 pp., with an additional "ADVERTISING SECTION" laid-in loosely, 22 x 17" (56 x 43 cm.), 6 pp. Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart, dir: Lloyd Bacon, Michael Curtiz (uncredited). Classic gangster film, with Bette Davis as a supposed "hostess at a clip joint" who is eventually persuaded by the district attorney (Bogart) to testify against her murderous gangster boss.

This is a quite rare book, and to find it complete -- with no ads cut-out, and with its gigantic advertising supplement as well -- is quite a treat....

OUR BLUSHING BRIDES (1930) $300.00

Vintage original 11 x 14" double weight glossy silver gelatin print photo, USA. Joan Crawford, Anita Page, Dorothy Sebastian, Robert Montgomery, Raymond Hackett, John Miljan, Hedda Hopper, dir: Harry Beaumont; MGM. The great Art Direction by Cedric Gibbons at the dawn of Deco and the Adrian adorned lingerie are great highlights of this fantastic oversize still, but there is more. On the verso is still photographer C. A. Pollock's stamp, the attached paper blurb and early Culver Service stamps. To top it off is a spectacular image from the films' "Lingerie" fashion show, with Joan Crawford at center as the...

PETRIFIED FOREST, THE (1935 Warner Brothers)
PETRIFIED FOREST, THE (1935 Warner Brothers) $3,750.00

Vintage original 11 x 14" (28 x 35 cm.) title lobby card, USA. Leslie Howard, Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart, Genevieve Tobin, Dick Foran, dir: Archie Mayo. A classic crime melodrama of the 1930s, from Robert E. Sherwood's play. Both Howard and Bogart starred in the play on Broadway, and though he had made several films earlier on, this return to film made Bogart a star in character roles for several years thereafter.

A gangster (Bogart as Duke Mantee) and his hoods hold hostage the inhabitants of a roadside desert café, and the tension builds. A very rare card with...
