AMERICAN IN PARIS, AN (1951) Portrait of Leslie Caron

Sold

Vintage original 10 x 8″ (25 x 20 cm.) black-and-white single weight glossy silver gelatin print still photo, USA. Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron, Oscar Levant, George Guetary, Nina Foch, dir: Vincente Minnelli’ MGM. French ballet dancer Leslie Caron made her film debut. Gene Kelly saw her in a ballet while he was in Paris and as the producers wanted a real French girl to play the role of Lise, she was selected.

When she arrived in America, she had cut off all her long hair and MGM hair dressers were not sure what to do — so her trademark pixie style, as she wears here, was created. The original typed blurb is featured on the verso of this image and the still is hand numbered in pencil 5178. Faint Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer ink stamp at top of verso. Minor creasing at bottom right corner, ABOUT FINE.
