Four vintage original black-and-white photos, all near fine:

  • One 9 x 7″ (23 x 18 cm) photo showing Newton handcuffed to a table while being treated for gunshot wounds after a confrontation with the police which led to the death of a white policeman. With mimeographed text on verso dated “Oct. 28, 1967” and a stamp indicating that this photo had been in the files of the New York Post.
  • One 10 x 8″ (25 x 20 cm) photo showing Newton after he was found guilty of manslaughter. “SEP 9 1968” date stamp on verso, along with a later date stamp indicating a subsequent use of the image.
  • One 8 1/2 x 7″ (22 x 18 cm) photo showing Newton in prison. With affixed mimeographed text “Newton… said in an interview that ‘I decide the final policy on everything in the [Black Panther] Party’” dated 7-22-70.
  • One 6 7/8 x 5″ (17.5 x 13 cm) photo, with mimeographed text on verso. Newton, now freed, states in a news conference that the Black Panther Party is not in decline and is in fact “deep into a political campaign in Oakland” dated 4/4/73.
