3 ORE PER UCCIDERE [THREE HOURS TO KILL] (1954)
3 ORE PER UCCIDERE [THREE HOURS TO KILL] (1954) $1,250.00 SOLD

Vintage original 39 x 54" (99 x 137 cm.) due folio / 2-fogli poster, Italy. Dana Andrews, Donna Reed, Dianne Foster, Stephen Elliott, dir: Alfred L. Werker; Columbia. A taut Western in the revenge-drama genre about a cowboy accused of murder who hides out in the desert before going back to clear his name.

Italian film poster artist Anselmo Ballester has created beautiful portraits of Andrews and Reed and played up the romantic element of the story, their love haunted by the foreboding noose. On linen. VERY GOOD.

400 BLOWS, THE [LES QUATRE CENTS COUPS] (1959)
400 BLOWS, THE [LES QUATRE CENTS COUPS] (1959) $450.00 SOLD

Vintage original 9 x 11" (23 x 28 cm.) double weight photo, France. Jean-Pierre Leaud, dir: Francois Truffaut; Cocinor. The young Antoine Doinel (Leaud) and his best friend Rene Bigey (Patrick Auffay) as they prepare to steal a movie photo of the voluptuous Gianna Maria Canale in the well-known classic Theodora, Slave Empress.

This is the earliest image that I can think of in movie history that involves the collecting (well, in this case, that starts with stealing) of movie posters and photos. There are some minor signs of handling, with a few small marginal pinholes and creases, there...

99 RIVER STREET (1953)
99 RIVER STREET (1953) $150.00 SOLD

Vintage original 22 x 28" (55 x 71 cm.) half sheet style A, USA. John Payne, Evelyn Keyes, Brad Dexter, Frank Faylen, Peggie Castle, dir: Phil Karlson; United Artists. Effective noir crime melodrama about a former boxing champ who loses his title and ends up driving a taxi for a living, who ends up being blamed for the murder of his henpecking wife. The film was very effectively directed by Phil Karlson who got unflinching portrayals from the cast, particularly John Payne and with his depiction of the big city as both Heaven and Hell. Folded, VERY GOOD.

ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS (1955)
ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS (1955) $0.00 SOLD

Vintage original 36 x 14" (91 x 36 cm.) insert poster, USA. Rock Hudson, Jane Wyman, dir: Douglas Sirk; Universal. One of Douglas Sirk's greatest melodramas, the story of an unlikely romantic pairing between a prosperous widow with a handsome younger gardener who reads Thoreau -- and the discord which ensues, because neither the lady's family nor friends can accept either the difference in social class or in age.

A massively influential film, which was directly remade both by Fassbinder (All Fear Eats the Soul) and Toddy Haynes (Far from Heaven). Douglas Sirk was one of Rock Hudson's mentors during his...

AMARE PER UCCIDERE [WICKED AS THEY COME] (1956)
AMARE PER UCCIDERE [WICKED AS THEY COME] (1956) $2,000.00 SOLD

Vintage original 39 x 55" (100 x 140 cm.) due folio / 2-fogli poster, Italy. Arlene Dahl, Phillip Carey, Herbert Marshall, Michael Goodliffe, dir: Ken Hughes; Columbia. A vehicle for the beautiful Arlene Dahl, who was swathed in sexy clothes and placed in beautiful sets and did her best acting in the role of a girl who is set on rising from her job in a shirtwaist factory to the top -- letting nothing stand in her way... including murder.

The great Italian poster artist Anselmo Ballester has captured a tense moment from the film. On linen, VERY GOOD.

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS (1951) / LESLIE CARON
AN AMERICAN IN PARIS (1951) / LESLIE CARON $200.00 SOLD

Vintage original 10 x 8" (25 x 20 cm.) black-and-white single weight glossy silver gelatin print still photo, USA. Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron, Oscar Levant, George Guetary, Nina Foch, dir: Vincente Minnelli' MGM. French ballet dancer Leslie Caron made her film debut. Gene Kelly saw her in a ballet while he was in Paris and as the producers wanted a real French girl to play the role of Lise, she was selected.

When she arrived in America, she had cut off all her long hair and MGM hair dressers were not sure what to do -- so her trademark pixie style,...

ANATOMY OF A MURDER (1959)
ANATOMY OF A MURDER (1959) $4,000.00 SOLD

Vintage original 41 x 27" (104 x 69 cm.) one sheet poster, USA. James Stewart, George C. Scott, dir: Otto Preminger. This is one of the greatest of all of Saul Bass' movie posters, and I personally find it more perfectly laid out than his other great masterpiece, Vertigo. It is getting increasingly difficult to find a genuinely nice example of this poster, much less one which is unbacked and entirely unrestored, as this one is.

Folded, with a few scattered pinholes and some light creasing near the bottom of the poster, JUST ABOUT FINE.

ARENA (1953)
ARENA (1953) $250.00 SOLD

Vintage original 41 x 27" (104 x 69") one sheet poster, USA. Gig Young, Jean Hagen, Polly Bergen, dir: Richard Fleischer; MGM. Promoted by MGM as the first 3-D Western, this poster, appropriately, has the expected "coming at you out of the screen" graphics. Folded, no pinholes, there is a bit of fold wear at upper fold, and a tiny tear in top blank margin, overall NEAR FINE.

ASPHALT JUNGLE, THE (1950)
ASPHALT JUNGLE, THE (1950) $1,000.00 SOLD

Vintage original 22 x 28" (55 x 70 cm.) half sheet poster, USA. Sterling Hayden, Louis Calhern, Jean Hagen, James Whitmore, Sam Jaffe, Marilyn Monroe, dir: John Huston, MGM.

Classic film noir about a heist which, after being successfully executed, unravels with tragic consequences. Though John Huston intended the role of Angela Phinlay for Lola Albright, Marilyn Monroe won the role and it was the first in which her great dramatic abilities were explored. Poster features Monroe prominently, thanks to agent Johnny Hyde's work in placing her there amongst the films MGM contract players.

Poster is paper-backed. There are creases at all...

ATLANTIQUE, LATITUDE 41° [A NIGHT TO REMEMBER] (1958)
ATLANTIQUE, LATITUDE 41° [A NIGHT TO REMEMBER] (1958) $1,500.00 SOLD

Vintage original 30 x 46" (78 x 117 cm.) poster, France. Kenneth More, Ronald Allen, Robert Ayres, Honor Blackman, Anthony Bushell, dir: Roy Ward Baker; Rank Organisation. There have been several fine depictions on film of the epic tragedy of RMS Titanic, this one based on Walter Lord's definitive book. Even with the most recent epic film telling, critics still consider this "the definitive cinematic telling of the story," (Heyer 2012, p.104). Because many of the survivors were living when the book and film were made, exact accuracy could be achieved and the film was made in order of sequence.
