CABIN IN THE COTTON (1932)

Vintage original 8 x 10” (20 x 25 cm.) black and white single weight glossy silver gelatin print still photo, USA. Bette Davis, Richard Barthelmess, Dorothy Jordon, dir: Michael Curtiz; Warner Brothers. A tight melodrama set in the American South exploring the problems of Capitol and Labor, that between the tenant farmers and their landlords. A sharecropper’s son falls for the provocative daughter of the land owner. Today, mainly because the clip is featured in WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE, the film is most famous for Davis’ line (which she later told Barbara Walters was her favorite), “I’d like to kiss you but I just washed my hair.” In still CC-110, Bette appears well coiffed and well dressed in a romantic scene with Richard Barthelmess. Tiny crease at bottom right corner. Minor crease at mid left blank white margin. ABOUT FINE.
