Vintage original 22 x 28" (55 x 71 cm.) half sheet style A, USA. John Payne, Evelyn Keyes, Brad Dexter, Frank Faylen, Peggie Castle, dir: Phil Karlson; United Artists. Effective noir crime melodrama about a former boxing champ who loses his title and ends up driving a taxi for a living, who ends up being blamed for the murder of his henpecking wife. The film was very effectively directed by Phil Karlson who got unflinching portrayals from the cast, particularly John Payne and with his depiction of the big city as both Heaven and Hell. Folded, VERY GOOD.

Somerset Maugham, and starring two actors (Durbin, Kelly), both of them much more clearly linked to lighter films in most of their careers, this film has gradually come to be realized as one of director Siodmak's most idiosyncratic noir masterpieces, with its intimations of perverse sexuality, and its fatalistic story, most of it told in flashback.

Unfolded, there is a 3" (8 cm.) tear mended on back with brown paper, there...
