James Cagney won the Academy Award for Best Actor of 1942 for his portrayal of George M. Cohan in Yankee Doodle Dandy. His award was presented by the previous year’s winner, Gary Cooper. At the CBS mic, they stand with several Oscars mounted on their base. The statues for this year and the following two years were made of painted plaster.
