Based on the 1973 novel by William Brashler about a team of Negro league baseball players who break away from their teams in order to start their own team and hopefully break the color barrier. This film was an important one in the careers of Richard Pryor, James Earl Jones and Billy Dee Williams, and an early cinematic attempt to recapture elements of African American history on celluloid.
