Greer Garson launches into her acceptance speech for her Academy Award as Best Actress for 1942 for her role in Mrs. Miniver. She is presented by 1941’s winner Joan Fontaine. Garson is known to have made the longest Academy speech in history; because of that, speeches were thereafter given time limits. The award seen in the image is likely one made of painted plaster, as the awards given out in 1943-45 were made of plaster due to a shortage of metal. This photo was one retained by the MGM photographers.
