[Los Angeles]: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, [1944]. Vintage original 8 x 10″ (20 x 25 cm.) black-and-white glossy silver gelatin photo. Original printed blurb on verso describing film is present with an ink stamp of 3086. Near fine.

Brought from Sweden in 1939 and contracted to David O. Selznick, Ingrid Bergman made Intermezzo. Selznick would not feature her in another film for six years, during which time he owned her contract and loaned her to the other studios. Fortunately for her, she was allowed to choose some of the finest roles available at Warner Brothers, Paramount and (several times) at MGM.

When she took on the role in the gothic thriller Gaslight, she won an Academy Award. MGM was thrilled to have the prestige of a Best Actress winner, without having to deal with what comes with that when a star is under contract. This contemporary portrait publicized her role for MGM.
