KATHRYN GRAYSON | THOUSANDS CHEER (1942) Set of 4 photos
[Los Angeles]: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, [1942]. Set of four vintage original 8 x 10″ (20 x 25 cm.) black-and-white glossy silver gelatin photos. Two photos have chips at their bottom right corners, near fine.
MGM’s answer to the popularity of Universal’s Deanna Durbin was Kathryn Grayson. This proved especially fortuitous to her when MGM lured the producer of Durbin’s musicals to MGM. Joe Pasternak set upon starring the more-than-pretty soprano on a course towards stardom in lightweight stories employing classical music.
As was custom for all, Grayson was obligated to pose in outfits for a variety of fashion shots, these which she wore as her characters in the all-star World War II cheerer Thousands Cheer. The original title as stated in the printed blurbs on verso was Private Miss Jones. Each of Grayson’s ensembles are described as well.
