Musician Constance Dane Roberti (Katharine Hepburn) marries womanizing orchestra conductor Franz Roberti (Charles Boyer), and melodrama unfolds as their happy jet setting lifestyle is threatened by his affair with a society woman.

The two share a melancholy moment over a bottle of rye in this scene (the recent Prohibition repeal made it possible for stories to include the open use of alcohol). 1935 was a big year for Hepburn with three major films at RKO. A grand romance with music by Max Steiner, neither star liked the script, but they became friends and were reunited in 1969’s The Madwoman of Chaillot.
