Romantic singing idol, musician and actor Russ Columbo in a beautifully composed portrait by Roy D. MacLean. The photographer’s ink stamp is on verso as is the date of Sep. 7, 1934. Columbo was the victim of a mysterious death at this very time and, in fact, died on Sep. 2, 1934. It is believed he was shot in a freak accident while visiting a photographer friend. Only 26, he was romantically involved with Carole Lombard and in consideration for the role of Ravenal in Show Boat.
