GO WEST (1940)
Vintage original 12 x 8;” (68 x 102 cm.) color trade ad, USA. Groucho Marx, Chico Marx, Harpo Marx, John Carroll, Diana Lewis, dir: Edward Buzzell; MGM. A most fun and lively of all Marx Brothers art pieces. It is also amongst the finest examples of the art renderings by Jacques Kapralik, the collage artist who specialized in three dimensional art pieces, highlighting many MGM films during the late-1930s and through the 1940s.
Karpralik had a knack for pinpointing character and story line by borrowing from props and costume pieces used in the film, all evident here. The story had the three Marx Brothers (this time as shady characters S.S. Quentin, Joe and Rusty) in the Wild West, helping out a young man who is attempting to settle a family feud. They run into crooks along the way. The climatic train chase sequence made it a big winner.
