GWENDOLYN BROOKS (1950, 1984) Set of 2 photos

$350.00

[Np]: 1950, 1984. Two (2) vintage original black-and-white photos. One has mimeographed text affixed to verso from a news bureau stating that Brooks is “the first Negro woman to capture [a Pulitzer Prize], and is date stamped, with photo agency sticker as well on verso. The other is a borderless photo of a much older Brooks, 9 1/2 x 6 1/2” (24 x 16.5 cm.), and is also date stamped.

Gwendolyn Brooks was 32 years-old when she won the Pulitzer Prize for her book of poetry, Annie Allen. The first photo documents the moment of her getting well-deserved recognition. The later photo is of a much older, but much more recognized, important literary figure giving a reading.
